Mentorship

J.K ROWLING: An inspiration indeed.
Have you ever wondered what an idea can make your life be like? Maybe you don’t. Seated in a noisy train station in Manchester was a young lady whose train to London had just delayed. It was Joanne Rowling, the author of the children’s book series; Harry Potter. J.K Rowling had an ailing mother. Her parents were not in good terms while her application to study at Oxford University had been unsuccessful. Like a dejected young lady, she sat down in the waiting lounge and thought about her life purpose, what she wanted in her life for herself and others. She wanted to write something thrilling for the children. Rowling gave up writing just as soon as she had started. Ten years later her mother died and when clearing the late mother’s house she stumbled upon the manuscripts of her first book, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s stone. Her dream to write was revived. She completed her book within a month and publishers were scrambling to have it published.
Today, she is rated as the 13th richest person in the United Kingdom and is one of the most influential people in Britain.
VISUALIZE YOUR FUTURE
Unlike Rowling, most people have no idea of what they want to do with their lives. Picture this you are 100 years old and wondering what you have done with your whole life. Or let visualize the time of your death. What do you want people to eulogize at your funeral? Or let’s just say after you complete your studies, you have gotten a good job and made good money. Then ask yourself, was this all that you wanted to accomplish life?’ Life is more than all that! It is more than changing your careers more often than the number of times you change your sneakers.
SET GOALS
To identify your purpose in life you must set your own goals and strive to achieve them. Many of people fail to achieve anything because there is no goal they are chasing in life; or rather they have so many goals that they all seem meaningless. For example you cannot choose to be a doctor, a pilot, an electrician and a teacher at the same time. You have to choose one course to follow. Or two which can go hand in hand; like teaching part-time and being a fulltime electrician. If J.K Rowling had not set her priorities right, you would probably have never heard of her books.
OVERCOME SELF DOUBT
By doubting yourself it implies that you simply don’t trust yourself. Trust is more important. Believe in yourself and you will make it in life. When making your choices in life you should make calculated sure moves. This helps you to overcome self-doubt.
NEVER BE ASHAMED!
Sometimes when discovering your purpose in life you pursue actions that may embarrass you, your families or those friends close to you. You should not feel prestigious about the comfort you enjoy. Don’t worry about other people’s opinions about you. People always talk. Move on! They will keep talking.
ACCEPT REALITY CHALLENGES
What happened is the past. Nobody can change what has already happened. You can’t change history. You can’t change reality. Hiding from reality is like an ostrich burying its head in the sand upon sensing danger. Knowing your environment is good, but it’s better to accept it and improve your future. Just two years after publishing her first book Rowling encountered a few challenges. First she was divorced by her first husband then there were two court cases. One was challenging the originality of her work while the other was a group of parents who wanted her books off the school shelves. But she moved on.
People should purpose to live life to the fullest, relate well with others and positively touch the lives of others.

INSTILLING A CULTURE OF DISCIPLINE; BUNGOMA MISSION

On 17th October a group of 4, left for Bungoma County, A county which recently had been on media about many political issues. The group had a different mission; a mission to reach the unreached, to touch the untouched and bring the gospel of success to many. Looking at what has been happening recently with our students mostly in high schools is pathetic. Many students and even young teens have started engaging in bad activities in the society. Very few organizations in Kenya like Nipe Sauti Africa have decided to look at the plight of our youngsters.  As a group, we wish to thank those who volunteered.

Topics Covered:
      Self Esteem
Discipline
Hard work
Respect
Prayer
Persistence
Sexuality

Programme by Mandela

St. Patrick’s Netima Secondary School.
We arrived at Netima Sec.  at exactly 9:00am. We were welcomed by the deputy principal at his office. Netima Secondary is located at  in Bumula constituency in Bungoma county. The school performance has not been good.  We therefore, opted to select the school. The students were very happy to see us and also Mandela who comes from the locality. When we asked them about the expectations most of them wanted advice on studies and wanted to know how we made it to university. The school on average produced at most five students to the university with many scoring below C.  There was a need to motivate them.

Our first speaker was Joyce Rotich. She was followed by Mandela and Vincent summarised. What fascinated us was when we requested the students to summarize what they had understood.  All of them wanted to summarize. We took a video of each student. We emphasized on the need for hard work keeping in mind that most of them come from a humble background.

Bisuche Secondary School
This was our major school. It is located 1 KM from Netima Secondary. In fact all the schools are in one village. The village is so populated. This school was started 4 years ago by the local community. One of the villagers gave out his land freely. The school is both a boarding and day school. They do not have enough boarding facilities. The hostel can only accommodate ten students. Most of the students in this school come from very poor families. Poverty has affected most of them and has left a very bad image in their minds. Some of them cannot even afford two uniforms a year.  Most of them even cannot afford to pay ksh5000 fees.  Some come from families where reaching form four is a family dream.

The girls too had a very big problem. The level of girls dropping out of school is very high. In form two for instance, there was a lady who was pregnant and a boy who was already married. There are also too many cases of relationships amongst students. This has led to some girls too dropping out of schools.

All in all, we mainly focused on Discipline which mainly comes if one is passionate and believes in what he or she is doing. The students requested we go back again and we promised to go back in February 2016. We have an obligation to do, we want to go there with something to show. The girls requested for sanitary towels.

In Bisuche the situation is worse. While we are talking about computers, a student in Bisuche has never seen a computer. Seriously I believe we can do something for this school. We want to create an ICT center in this school which also benefit the society in general. I believe we can, Help us, help Bisuche Secondary school. We have decided to start a campaign to raise computers. We have applied for the Mpesa Foundation sponsorship. Safaricom through Safaricom Foundation  is giving ksh100,000 for a project that will garner the highest votes. We need this money to buy computers. Our aim is to get 20 computers first round.

Whether old or new we need a computer. I have provide the link click on it and vote for this project.

Might you be in a position to know someone who can donate a computer or you have an old one reach me through these contacts 0702741898/ chrismandela1@gmail.com/ nipesautiafrica@gmail.com.

Together let's give this school the voice. SEMA ICT MASHINANI, SEMA COMPUTER BISUCHE”

St. Justino Kayole Slums: Teaching and Mentorship Program

Within the heart of Kayole slum, there lies a small village called Soweto. As it is known, Soweto is a heaven of all 'evils'. Thug life, drug peddling, prostitution and day-light nagging of visitors in the area is more common than any other place on earth. In this area, education is a challenge. But, beyond all odds, St. Justino High School has defied all odds and wound its way into providing quality education.

The school is not well off. It barely survives on donations from well-wishers. Almost all the teachers are volunteers and the students are from the slums. Next to it is Nairobi River which is very dirty and someone can smell its stench from as far as Imani Children's Home along Masimba Rd.

That's just a little story about St. Justino High School. As Nipe Sauti Africa, we have dedicated our Saturdays to teach and mentor the students. We want them to achieve the best by being coached from our pool of experiences. We therefore, ask you to join us. Click on THIS LINK, sent us a message and join this noble course.
